Low sulphur heavy stock (lshs) fuel oil is a type of residual fuel oil that is primarily used in industrial boilers, furnaces, and thermal power plants. It is similar to furnace oil (fo) but is characterized by a lower sulfur content, making it more environmentally friendly and compliant with modern emission regulations. Key Features: Low Sulphur Content: Typically contains sulfur content below 1.0% (often < 0.5%), making it suitable for use in areas with strict environmental norms (e.g., MARPOL Annex VI regulations for marine fuel). Viscous Nature: Like other heavy oils, LSHS is highly viscous at ambient temperatures and must be pre-heated before use to reduce viscosity and enable proper atomization in burners. High Calorific Value: Provides a good energy output, generally around 9, 800 to 10, 500 kcal/kg, making it efficient for heat generation. Applications: Used in thermal power plants, large-scale industrial boilers, cement and steel industries, and marine engines (where allowed).
